As it turns out, the abbreviation for Iowa has been BOTH IA and IO... but several years ago, The post office department issued a bulletin asking that the name of the state of Iowa shall never be abbreviated in addressing letters, as it has so often led to mistakes in the distribution of the mail. It is explained that he abbreviation &quot;Ia.&quot; might be mistaken for Indiana, while the abbreviation &quot;Io.&quot; might be taken for Idaho, those abbreviations being used in those states as much as they are in Iowa.

P.S. I&#039;ll miss you; at least we&#039;ll have the cruise.</description>
